Imphal: Miscreants on Thursday “hijacked” a private water tanker meant for supplying potable water to the state police personnel deployed at the India-Myanmar border town of Moreh.
Though the driver was released unharmed on Thursday night, the tanker, a mini truck, remained untraceable despite search operations launched by security forces there on Friday, a police officer said, even as the government is all prepared to airlift essential commodities for the commandos by helicopters.
On Wednesday, village volunteers of Tengnoupal asked Moreh traders to shut their shops to state security forces and stop selling even water to them from Saturday till they are withdrawn from there.
A release issued by the “Village Volunteers, Tengnoupal District, Eastern Zone” said the measures have been taken “to maintain peace and harmony within our community and ensure the safety of all individuals.”
